Once again, we travelled down the long and winding road, Dorothy at the wheel, Betty Jean, Lori and me to the Rockville Hall. It was their last game of euchre for the season. A lot of fun, a good lunch, a good bunch! Earlier in the day I was in charge, kind of, of the birthday party at the hall. We had a beautiful cake Simon had bought so I didn’t have to make one, but we had some snacker food, too. Birthday people there were Mary J., Jeanine and Harold (I didn’t think anyone was older than me), Jackie missed. Our faithful musicians, The Islanders, claim it’s their music practice and it is close alright, but they are so good to share their music. I sang one song. Thanks, Gordie, Harold, Norm and Peter of the Islanders. Peter and Lois compared notes on Big Pond/Sydney and Rita McNeil. Peter also said he had been at our hall 23 years, starting with Marvin and Isobel Brouse. How’s that for community! We all sing along, Lois had a contest called are you smarter than a fifth grader? I did pass one and two! Jeanine graduated!
On Monday afternoon I visited. First, I took Audrie three pretty roses, a card signed by all our U.C.W. group and visited for a half hour. Next, I took two Christmas cards to Diane McLean Debassige and said sorry they are late, or maybe they are early? She wasn’t feeling so well, and she had had a fall. I guess her ribs weren’t broken, as when I made her laugh she held closer to her shoulder. I just don’t have time to visit much between naps! Surprised her!
There seems to be much illness, so get well. And/or sympathy, as needed, to be offered, almost every day. Mildred Sauder is not well; thinking of you in the Manor. I hear Barry is home.
Hey, Em, did I miss you or did you make it to the Island?
My nephew Gary Hall in Mackenzie, British Columbia is having health issues (again). I thought he said, “It’s my birthday”, so of course I said, “happy birthday”! No, “It’s my first day!”
So, we welcome Silvio Berti as our new city clerk. He always smiles. So, hope that continues. Nothing like friendly, is there?
I’ve been working at my harvest look in the front yard and I’ll be darned if I know how it got this late in the year, this fast! My hummingbirds left Friday, September 13. That’s bad? I’m the only one in the yard humming now?
Rockville euchre scores: men’s high, Doris, 79 and 3 lone hands; men’s low, Dorothy C., 36; ladies’ high, Maureen; lone hands, Judi Parkinson, 5; ladies’ low, Pat Nelder, 49; door, Eva Bond.
The coffee mornings have started at the library on Wednesday at 10 am. Always fun and informative and full of Joan’s good baking.
A few nice sunny days in a row. Beautiful moonlit nights, and why am I having so much pain in my joints?
Sandfield euchre: 3 x 9s, $10, Laurene; ladies’ high, Dave James; lone hands, Dave James; men’s high, Dave McKay; door, Millie.
Doris Holt says “hi” to Barbara McCauly. She says she used to work with her.
Next Wednesday evening Sandfield has some bonus draws.
Took time for a coffee and visited at the library before I set up for cribbage. We had six and a half tables: high hand, Florence, 24; first, Cal an I, 959; second, Lori and Rick, 940; third, Maureen and Roy, 934; low, Brad and Dorothy, 866; door, Roy, Shirley and Dorothy A.
I told the girls on Tuesday “try not to look dead” as two vultures and one bald eagle was circling above the PO in Tehkummah looking the situation over? Mary and Laurie.
Euchre tournament, nine tables: K.P. duty, Joan Beard, Valerie and Betty Jean Bailey. These gals had had a busy few days with ploughing match and funeral, respectively and just got back home. High scores, Ted and Dorothy, 78; tied with 70 points each, Marg and Marlaine, and Anna and Janet; tied with 69 points each, Laurene and Dave, and Margaret and Irene; low, BJ and Peggy, 44; lone hands, 6, Betty Jean and Glenn; door prize, Betty Jean, as well as the 50/50.
Wolf sightings and bear cub sightings by Cal in his and Slash area. I imagine mama bear wasn’t far away.
Hello, Marion Case!
Had to go to Manitowaning town on Friday. Only buy the big bags of flour when they are on sale and I’ve been a whole week with only a cup and a half of flour to my name. No excuses now.
I decided to keep going, Derek and Jodi got back from Ottawa Thursday night, he had more birthday celebrations while away and watching their youngest grandchild explore! He sounds busy. Derek was unloading lumber, Jodi was away doing laundry, so we met at Green Acres for supper.
Skylar was getting ready to go to the ploughing match in Verner with Gramma Sherry and Grampa Dave. I talked to Lyle Dewar earlier today (by phone), he had just returned, pretty busy spot. He says an Island event is at the Armstrong Farm in October.
Lots of smiling faces encountered at the Tehkummah Community Church on Saturday. The girls so helpful in the clothing department upstairs and downstairs was where it was all happening. A busy area, where feet or hands, I assume, could be massaged. Folks of all ages getting manicures. The two W’s were clipping and snipping hair into neat styles, and folks, too, could have their soup and chili, rolls and desserts while waiting for their number to come up! Was very busy, even could learn to save a choking victim. Service was excellent, lots of helpers recruited. Thank you so much, I did so enjoy my time there. Time spent with friends is never wasted!
Justeen came over bearing puffball in hand. Thanks, too, Ronnie, for thinking of me. Justeen said she had spent an overnight in the hospital this past week. Eileen phoned, too, saying Audrey was back in Mindemoya Hospital. Thinking of you, dear one.
The sea was churning, and the lake was roaring. I imagine the ferry ride was rocky and rolling.
Are you out and about admiring the fall colours? They are spectacular in spots!
June McDougall was our minister today. She always has a good lesson.
Sympathy to Iona Petersen and family. We hear your oldest son Ken passed away from cancer. Thinking of you all.
Bid euchre this Thursday, September 26.
Boy, what a downpour this evening. Talking to Kathy and Kim on the phone Sunday evening. They said they had been just 20 minutes from the tent city in Verner, and they could have found (maybe) Sherry, Dave and Skylar.
Fall is all around us, but Autumn is making the headlines. Congratulations, young lady!
