MHC Auxiliary News

The first meeting of 2019-2020 was held on September 10 in the Multi Purpose Room. President Dawn Orr welcomed all and reflected on events held from May to September.

The mandate of the Manitoulin Health Centre Auxiliary is to enhance patient services; and to assist the Manitoulin Health Centre in every way possible in the interests of the best patient care. This necessitates fundraising! Our objective is to fundraise to provide the best for all patients. Our main contributions include free TV, equipment purchases, tuck cart services and care bags.

We thank the Rainbow Country Cruisers for their support. A cheque for $2,666.75 from the car show was presented on behalf of all Cruiser members. A sincere thank you to all involved. The auxiliary has been invited to be a partner in the auction to be held at the car show in 2020. We would be responsible for providing 12 items and three workers to assist in the auction. The auxiliary would benefit from the proceeds of the auction. More details will follow.

The auxiliary had a booth at Summer Fest in Manitowaning. Sales netted over $1,000. Book sales are over $1,000. The coin box collection continues to be a source of funds. Nearly $900 since May! Over nine years, donations have surpassed $10,000. Sincere thanks to the members who organized and volunteered at Summerfest and to Dave Sylvester for spearheading and continuing the supervision of the coin box collection.

Donations to the In Memoriam Fund and purchases at the tuck cart and lottery continued throughout the summer.

More time will be spent at the next meeting to plan upcoming events.

The Hospital Equipment Project for People Lottery is now fully staffed. We apologize for the sporadic opening at the Tuck Cart Room over the past few months. Here are the happy folks to greet you from 11 am to 1 pm, Monday to Friday. Monday, Dawn Orr; Tuesday, Laila Kiviaho; Wednesday, Carmelita Genereux; and Thursday, Ken Ferguson. Welcome on board, Ken! On Friday we have a rotary schedule so each person does one shift a month. Ann Slaght, Shirley McGregor, Dave Sylvester and Marilee Hore will take their turns. Marilee is also the chairperson of the lottery. Thanks for doing this for many years.

When you’re buying tickets or snacks, don’t forget to take home a book or two from the tuck cart. All books on the cart are free.

There are only four Saturday Farmers’ Market days left. Pick up a stock of books to read over the winter months. Support the MHC auxiliary!

Make sure you give of yourself to build up others on your life’s journey. Giving builds you up too. Give time to the Manitoulin Health Centre auxiliary. It’s membership month. For $2 a year you can be an active member or a supporter. Surprise membership chair Leona Sylvester at 705-368-1709. Come to the next meeting on October 10 at 7 pm in the board room. We need more members. All are welcome.
