Kagawong all set to host the 39th Annual Terry Fox Run

KAGAWONG – The Terry Fox Run in Kagawong—Manitoulin’s only public Terry Fox Run— is days away, and participants are gearing up to raise money for cancer research and help keep Terry Fox’s dream alive.

The run gets underway on Sunday, September 15 and, for the first time, Kagawong will host the event. Last Year marked the final event for Little Current under long-time organizer Joana Rosenbaum and the Silver Water run will also be taking a break this year, but will return next year.

The run gets underway at the Kagawong Park Centre at 9 am with registration at 8 am.

Routes of 1km, 5km and 10km are available. Bikes and dogs on a leash are welcomed. The run will end at the municipal office, 15 Old Mill Road. Water will be supplied and light snacks available.

Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope might have ended in 1980 but the spark lit in the hearts and minds of Canadians ignited into a campaign of hope that has lasted more than three decades.

Once again this September, hundreds of thousands of Terry Fox supporters will participate in their favourite Canadian fall tradition at one of more than 700 Terry Fox Runs from coast to coast to ensure that cancer research continues to forge ahead.

Terry ran an unbelievable 5,373 kilometres in 143 days. He persevered through pain, weather, personal doubt and frustration. He never gave up. And neither have Canadians, who have taken his remarkable example to heart and assumed his cancer research legacy as their own. With almost 10,000 fundraising events nationwide, Terry’s footsteps echo loudly in Canada in September.

Seventy-nine percent of every dollar raised goes directly to research.

Terry Fox had a single dream: a world without cancer. Come and join us as we work together in pursuit of this dream. For event details or more information, visit terryfox.org
