HELEN HAZZARD

Helen Hazzard of Gore Bay, and formerly of Silver Water, passed away at her residence on August 22, 2019, in her 80th year. Helen was born July 22, 1940 in Silver Water. She went to school in Silver Water and Gore Bay, then moved to Toronto for work in 1961. She came back to Silver Water in 1978 to care for her parents. She worked in the printing shop of the Manitoulin Recorder from 1979 to 1995. She enjoyed cats, flowers, classical music, reading, knitting, cake decorating, driving, feeding the birds and the rabbits and deer in her yard. She was active with the young people in Explorers and Messengers and was caretaker of St. Andrews United Church in Silver Water for many years. She loved to laugh, and family was very important to her. Helen is predeceased by her mother Clarissa (Adeline) Smyth, father Chester Hazzard and brother Harold. She is survived by many Smyth and Hazzard cousins. A memorial service was held at the Silver Water United Church, Hwy 540, Silver Water on Thursday, August 29 at 11 am. Interment in Silver Water Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Gore Bay Rotary Club (Gore Bay Medical Centre) or the Silver Water United Church as expressions of sympathy.
