Tourists, boaters, cottagers and of course regular patrons all coming in to use the internet, to find a good book, or to enjoy a magazine out of the heat. A very busy summer at your community library.
New books have arrived throughout the summer. These include such best sellers listed by The Globe and Mail as: ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens, ‘The Tattooist of Auschwitz’ by Heather Morris, ‘Educated’ by Tara Westover and ‘Becoming’ by Michelle Obama. The annual book sale downtown Little Current on July 1 was a great success. Thanks to our wonderful and tireless volunteers, Maureen Armstrong, John Royal, Paula Hooper, Tom Hooper, Anne Richards, Laurie Cook, Lee Baxter and John Finlay. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Elderly patrons from the Manor were brought to the Library for two visits over the summer. They had an opportunity to browse the shelves and choose reading materials for themselves. Library Outreach, resuming in September, is a program where volunteers visit shut ins such as Manor residents and bring books, magazines or audio materials to them. New volunteers are most welcome. Nelson Wood once again held the Haw Run and donated all proceeds to the library this year. Nelson has always been generous to the Library, and we were thrilled to receive this donation. Thank you to Nelson and all his volunteers.
The library was a stop on the Manitoulin Art Tour again in July. Local artists are invited to display their work here, and exhibits run on a regular basis throughout the year.
We would like to say thank you and good luck to Karen Nesbitt, one of our hardworking volunteer board members who has moved away. Karen will be missed by staff and fellow board members.
Grace Duncanson was with us once again as a summer student. A pleasure to work with, her great personality and work ethic will be missed by staff and patrons. Good luck with your studies this year, Grace.
Knitting on Thursday mornings and Creation Station on Friday mornings have continued through the summer. Tech Tuesday (first Tuesday of the month) has been a regular service since spring. Please call and make an appointment to see Ryan Adam for any tech help you may need.
Siska Poenn will re-start the Recorder Club on Thursdays, Bridge will resume on Wednesday afternoons, and games will be Friday afternoons for anyone interested in Scrabble, chess, Blokus, etc. Call the Library (705-368-2444) or check our website for dates and times. Everyone is welcome to join in.
The current tax bill includes an insert giving residents an opportunity to make a donation to the library. Consider becoming a special “Friend” and supporter of a valuable community resource.
