GORE BAY—The Gore Bay Fish and Game Club (GBFGC) has received summer pond fingerling walleye, thanks to the Blue Jay Creek fish hatchery run by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF).
“We received 10,000 summer pond fingerling walleye today from the Blue Jay hatchery,” said Ian Anderson of the GBFGC, on Friday of last week. He noted club members were present to assist in the transfer of the fish to the Gore Bay Fish and Game Club hatchery.
These fish will be raised until the early fall and released at a much larger size in Lake Kagawong, as part of a long-term plan to establish a walleye fishery in the lake, explained Mr. Anderson. This is a co-operative venture between the Sudbury MNRF office, Blue Jay hatchery and the club which is a continuation of a very successful partnership started a number of years ago.
“This is an excellent example of community involvement with the ministry with a great common goal of establishing a much-desired fish stock in local waters,” added Mr. Anderson.
