Manitoulin OPP investigate domestic disturbances

On Monday, June 10 at approximately 6:33 pm, officers from the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic disturbance on Highway 6 in the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands (NEMI).

Officers located two people and determined that one had been assaulted by the other.

As a result, a 21-year-old male from Tehkummah Township has been charged with two counts assault, spousal contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC).

Also on Monday, June 10, at approximately 8:53 pm officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Gore Bay. 

As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old female from Gore Bay has been charged with assault, spousal, contrary to section 266 of the CC.

Both of the accused are scheduled to appear before the Provincial Court of Justice in Gore Bay on July 24.

Manitoulin OPP asking for all fans to come to the Torch Run Friday

On Friday, June 28, members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the OPP will be participating in the Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, sponsored by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. This year, the Torch Run will commence at 10 am from the Mindemoya OPP Detachment and finish back at the Mindemoya Detachment. All ages are welcome to attend and run, jog, walk or bike. 

All funds that are raised across the province help provide a year-round program of fitness, recreation and competition for the Special Olympic athletes.

Following the run, there will be a social held at the Mindemoya OPP detachment. You can also show your support by purchasing a Torch Run t-shirt for $20 from Constable Marie Ford. For further information on this event, please contact Constable Marie Ford at 705-368-2200.
