I hope everyone had a very happy Mother’s Day! How was the breakfast in bed and flowers?
On Monday, May 6, five MSS gymnasts took part in the NOSSA gymnastics championships at the Gym Zone Gymnastics Club in Sudbury. Over 110 high school gymnasts from Northern Ontario participated in this event. Students Mary Hore and Kyleigh Biedermann competed in level one. Mary placed 4th on bars and ninth on floor and Kyleigh placed sixth on beam, eighth on vault, 10th on floor and eighth all-around. In level two, Sophie Hietkamp placed second on beam, sixth on vault, seventh on bars, ninth on floor and eighth all-around. Morgan Wall-Varey, who had recently overcame injury competed exceptionally well on vault and beam. In level five, Mackenzie Cortes placed fourth on vault and eighth on beam. Level five is the highest level of competition and included some of the strongest athletes ever represented at NOSSA! Thank you to coaches Miss Ferguson and Mrs. Theijsmeijer as well as manager Zoe Smith. Great job, girls!
Two walking groups of MSS students, staff and community members walked 60+km across the Island for ‘WE Walk For Water’ on Saturday, May 11. One team began in Misery Bay, while the other started in Wiikwemkoong, meeting at MSS in M’Chigeeng. Over $1,800 was raised to support clean water projects around the world! Thank you to everyone who supported this event!
On Tuesday, May 14, the MSS tennis team is participating in their first competition of the season. It has been a difficult start to the season with all the rain and the tennis courts being covered with puddles! A rain joke for you:
Anne: It’s raining cats and dogs!
Phyllis: I know. I just stepped in a poodle.
MSS track and field athletes are participating in Pre-NSSSA (North Shore Secondary School Athletic Association) today, Wednesday, May 15!
Students going on the Stratford trip are heading out tomorrow, May 16! They will be returning on Sunday, May 19, early in the morning. During the trip, students will have the opportunity to participate in various workshops as well as see many productions such as Henry VIII, Othello, Billy Elliot and Little Shop of Horrors. Have fun, Mustangs!
Monday, May 20, is a holiday, therefore a day off school! Yay!
On Friday, May 24, MSS is hosting the Spring Formal, ‘A Night In The Stars,’ from 7 to 11 pm. Tickets are $8 for a single and $12 for a couple.
As the semester is moving on and graduation is getting closer, it is time to mark the event on your calendar! The MSS graduation ceremony is June 27.
The Central Manitoulin Community Garden and Pumpkin Patch is still looking for volunteers to help with the garden and pumpkin patch this spring and throughout the growing season. If you are a high school student and need some volunteer hours, the Central Manitoulin Community Garden and Pumpkin Patch would be happy to have you assist them.
