MSS gymnastics
On Wednesday, April 3, a subset of the MSS girls’ gymnastics team competed at the Napanee District Secondary School Invitational and posted some strong results so early in the competitive season.
In Level 1, and at their very first gymnastics meet, Kyleigh Biedermann placed third on vault and fifth on floor, while Mary Hore placed fourth on beam, sixth on bars and seventh on vault and floor, winning her the bronze medal for Level 1 all-around. Mackensie Graham also competed well on vault and floor.
In Level 3, Summer Beaudin placed fourth on bars, and fifth on vault, beam and floor, also qualifying for the Level 3 bronze all-around.
In Level 5, OFSAA vaulting champion Mackenzie Cortes defended her status by placing first on vault, second on floor and fourth on beam and bars, contributing a third all-around bronze medal for the team. Special thanks to Zoe Smith who travelled with the team as manager.
Next up for the team: the Jack Miller Invitational in Sudbury at the end of April, and then the NOSSA Championship on May 6. Congratulations to Jill Ferguson (coach), Heather Theijsmeijer (coach), Zoe Smith (manager), Mackenzie, Summer, Mary, Mackensie and Kyleigh.
Remembering Prescott contributions in snowy conditions!
Recently Greg Lockeyer, who always has the pulse of Manitoulin sports, posted the picture he had taken of Don and Delroy Prescott with the Prescott Family Trophy that was presented last June at the first annual Mindemoya Youth Softball Tournament. The Prescotts, Don, Naida (who recently passed away) and Delroy were honoured for their countless dedication to the sport of softball, not only on Manitoulin but across Ontario and Canada. Thank you, Prescott family!
Sudbury Lady Wolf
This past weekend, Delaney Bridgeman and her Sudbury Lady Wolves AA Bantam team were off to Toronto for the provincial championships. Opening Friday morning against the Kingston Ice Wolves, the girls dominated play but could only manage a 1-0 victory. In their second game that afternoon they came out flat, and a desperate Ottawa Lady 67s team—who had earlier lost 7-1 to Oakville—jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first before the girls got in gear and started skating. That lead proved insurmountable, though, and the Sudbury side fell 5-1. Game three was against the eventual silver medal winning Oakville Hornets. Sudbury grabbed an early 1-0 lead but penalty trouble compounded by some defensive blunders saw Oakville claw back to tie, then take the lead 2-1. Sudbury surged back with plenty of pressure, but an inability to finish in tight cost them the game, falling 2-1. An undefeated Oakville won the division and was through to the next round, while the Kingston defeat of Ottawa left Sudbury in a three-way tie for second. With goal differential being the tiebreaker and the flat start in game two, coupled with the inability to capitalize on the numerous opportunities in game one, they were left two goals behind Kingston who were through to the next round, and the Lady Wolves’ season was done. Great work this season, Delaney, and keep 2019-2020 in mind as you prep for next season.

Co-Ed V-Ball
There will be a co-ed volleyball tournament in Wiikwemkoong on Saturday, April 27.
The six-on-six format must have two to three females per team. They are looking for eight to 10 teams with an entry fee of $200 per team. There will be a round robin format (with points system in effect). There will be cash prizes for first and second and more info to come. Teams must make payments before the deadline on April 18.

Wiky spring 5K
The Wiky 5K Fun Walk & Run is set for April 21 (Easter Weekend). There is no pre-registration needed and it is open to all ages. Children under 16 years of age need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The event is non-funded and was founded to support active and healthy living. Runners are asked to meet at Pontiac School at 2 pm on Sunday.
Low Island, Manitoulin Softball League preps for season
The LIMSL is officially ready to kick off registration for the 2019 season. They wanted potential teams to be aware of a few changes if you plan on entering a team. If you are interested, please check out Manitoulin Softball League on Facebook.
There will be a general meeting at the Little Current Legion on April 17 at 7 pm. The committee will be presenting the 2018-19 financial statement, updated league rules and general information. They are open to questions, suggestions, and comments. The committee is very excited for the 2019 season but because of the growth of the league, they aim to be as organized and professional as possible. Three-on-Three celebrations
So many lucky kids got to extend their season for another week as they competed in the annual Three-on-Three Tournament and Skills Competition in Little Current, hosted by the Mindemoya Thunder association. Although the winning teams (and their inventive names) are available on their site, it is always great to hear from close connections to these teams and recognize players and coaches. If you have results from your team, please send details and roster to the address below.
In the midget division, the Wiky All-Stars took silver in the Three-on-Three and won the skills competition. Congratulations to: Jonas Mejaki, Elijah Fox, Kelton Assiniwe, Gabe Trudeau, Jasmine Pitawanakwat, Nolan Peltier-Restoule, Julian Wemigwans, Carson Shawana, Collin-James Newbury and coaches Shelley Trudeau and Jonas Bondy.
