Faye (Rate) called me on Monday afternoon to inform me of her mother Shirley Anne (Little’s) death. She had been in the hospital for about the past month. She is a Tehkummah girl, had lived in Seaforth most of her married life. Shirley Ann and I worked in Little Current about the same time; that was a few years ago. We were both 15 (I think) at the time. Sympathy to the family.
This March month is always busy with St. Patrick’s celebrations (65 years since my wedding day and me only 29!); Wayne’s birthday 10th; Dave’s, 23rd; Judy’s, 12th (I think); Brian’s, 17th; Ron (Antice) 15th? Other anniversary greetings too.
Raining like a son of a gun tonight, 14th. I hope the water gets away. It was slippery walking the parking lot, was awful. Watch your step, icy in spots. The snow is diminishing! Finally (Monday 18th).
I usually make it to the Library Coffee Time on Wednesday morning. There are always a lot of goodies to go with the coffee and a lot of laughs for the seasoning and entertainment. Evelyn (Santos) has been sharing some of her wonderful poetry with us, too. From there I go right to the Hall to set up for cribbage. We almost had four tables and then we did, an hour later. Two high hands, 24, Dorothy C. and Bobby Jo.; first, Cal and I, 932; second and third with 912, Gib and Florence and Dorothy and Brad; low, Donna and Doris, 816; door, Donna, Florence and Hugh.
Bid euchre on Thursday, three tables and one (I saw two moons that didn’t shine): first, Kevin, 24; second, John, 198; third, Pat N., 197; low, Norma, 83; 50/50, Marg Case.
On Tuesday afternoon our Sr. U.C.W. group met at the home of Lorna Russell. Nine members, we enjoyed the hospitality and wonderful lunch served after our meeting that was full of useful household hints, Irish songs and stories. The wearin’ o’ the green. We finished with a wrapped item for auction, raising a few more dollars for our causes. Lynda picked me up after bringing Mary Yett for her introduction to our group. Eileen phones to remind me of the birthday party.
I saw a flock of ducks flying over the hospital at Mindemoya. I was waiting in the truck for Sherry. Then there was a message from Sis Pauline when I got home about spotting a “robin” near Lyle Dewar’s farm. Boy, hope the ground bares up soon so the little things can find the food to survive.
Sherry took me up to do my laundry on Friday. She and Dave had been to Elliot Lake overnight to help Jodi at her Mom and Dad’s home with flood problems, and then drove home again. Sherry and I had lunch at Grill and Chill. The food is so good. She gloated the whole way home as she beat me two to one cribbage games while the laundry was cooking.
Got a phone call from both my sons. Kim woke me last evening in my lazy girl chair, and Derek woke me this Saturday morning. Both good conversations. They never fail to remember my/our anniversary date.
Well, here it is Monday already, and so I spent at least 15 minutes searching for my clipboard. I wonder just how many of them are wasted every day searching for things I just had a minute ago? One of the “old” age blessings, I’m sure.
Well, “UBER” picked me up for church Sunday, then delivered me to the Hall afterwards. Martin always delivers such great church funnies to celebrate St. Paddy’s as well. (My Uber driver, thanks Norma).
I got a note from Bev this week and a nice St. Patrick’s card from cousin Colleen. So, hello there in the Sault.
A busy afternoon at the Hall with Bid euchre early afternoon, 7.5 tables, big pay outs, euchre regular tournament after with 11.5 tables. Marg took my list and didn’t return it. But I do recall Ted and Eva, 84; Marg and Simon?, and second lone hands tied with 79? Donna and Ella and ?
I have a good memory, it’s just short! I didn’t stay for supper, I was just too tired, had a rest here at home for a while. They did have good music at the Hall while the cards were going on. George, Wayne, Gordie, Lyle and Norm. As I told them, I’m their number one fan. I get to hear them again on Tuesday at the birthday party.
Well, Lyle told me a flock of red wing black birds flew in on Friday, too. The birds must like his place best. Just overnight the gold finches turned yellow. How do they do that?
Talked to Susan on the phone she hadn’t been home too long but was heading back down to Toronto. Chris and Jeff?, I think, are going with her. Get well soon.
Get well soon, Eleanor.
