Roads crew nominated as Winter Heroes

MINDEMOYA—The entire Central Manitoulin roads crew has been recognized by a local resident as ‘Winter Heroes’ on the CBC News radio Morning North and Up North programs.

Ruth Frawley, clerk-treasurer for the municipality of Central Manitoulin, informed council at a meeting last week that the township roads crew had been nominated by a local resident as ‘Winter Heroes’ for the work they have done on the municipal roads this winter.

Casey Stranges of CBC told the Recorder on Friday of last week, “on our Morning North and Up North Programs (February 28) we featured a Winter Heroes program and we requested people to phone in and tell us stories about winter heroes they know who for instance help their neighbours with snow plowing, This gentleman from Mindemoya called in with great things to say about the Central Manitoulin roads crew.”

John Stephens, of Mindemoya, in his on-air nomination of the Central Manitoulin roads crew said in part, “I would like to nominate the entire Central Manitoulin roads crew for its dedicated, exhaustive snow clearing. This year has been particularly exhausting.” He said the road crews never leave residents with snow on the road.

“Here on the Island we feel fortunate and grateful to have such sterling management roads crews-with great work ethics and high excellence in such thankless and dangerous assignments. I really appreciate what they do,” said Mr. Stephens.

The Central Manitoulin roads crew includes superintendent Perry Chatwell, deputy superintendent James Taylor, Jon Graham, Ben Lentir, Peter McAllister and Wayne Middaugh.
