MSS Kids in the Halls

There is now less than one week to the end of the semester. The only thing in the way is a few exams. Any Grade 9 or 10 students that are exempt from exams will get their exemption notices today, Wednesday, January 23.

Exams begin tomorrow, January 24, at 9:30 am. There will be half classes tomorrow, January 24, in the afternoon. If there happens to be a snow day during exams, all exams will be shifted to the next day. Second semester starts on Monday, February 4.

Speaking of snow… A joke for you:

A trucker stops at a red light and someone catches up to him. She knocks on the window and says, “Hi, my name is Heather and you are losing some of your load.” The trucker just ignores her, the light changes, and he proceeds down the street. At the next light, the lady catches up again and says, “Hi, my name is Heather, and you are losing some of your load.” He ignores her again and continues down the street. At the next red light, she catches up for the third time and all out of breath, knocks on the window and says, “Hi, my name is Heather and you are losing some of your load.” The trucker looks at her and finally, he says, “Hi, my name is Kevin, it’s snowing, and I’m driving a salt truck.”

On Tuesday, January 15, both the junior and senior boys’ basketball teams were in action in the MSS gym against the W.C. Eaket Royals. The juniors won 54-35 over the Royals and the seniors lost 54-37. Great job, boys!

On Friday, January 18, the boys’ hockey team played a home game against Lively at the NEMI Rec Centre at 7 pm. The boys played very well. Keep it up, Mustangs!

Just a reminder that there is ‘Mindful Mondays’ to manage the stress of exams and everything else that life has to offer in the way of school work. Mr. Nelson and school social worker Alison Orford are offering students this opportunity. The past Mondays, January 14 and January 21 and next Monday, January 28, ‘Mindful Mondays’ will be taking place in E2. During ‘Mindful Mondays’ students will be using different websites to help created a plan to manage their emotions and help minimize the stress associated with the end of semester.

In just under a month, MSS will be putting on the production of ‘The Mikado’ from February 14 to February 16. ‘The Mikado’ is set in a fictional Japanese town where flirting has been made a capital offense. ‘The Mikado’ tells the story of a wandering minstrel who falls for Yum-Yum, a young maiden who is betrothed to another. More details about the production and ticket information to come.

Joke of the week:

Father: Why did you get such a low score on your exam?

Son: Absence!

Father: You were absent on the day of the exam?

Son: No, but the boy who sits next to me was!

Upcoming events include basketball, hockey and volleyball games. But most importantly, final exams and second semester!

Until the next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
