Tehkummah Talk & Times

Thank you

Sometimes you just need a shoulder

When things aren’t going your way.

Sometimes a hug is the answer

Or a smile can complete your day.

Sometimes you just have to wonder

Where it’s all going from here.

Sometimes a pat on the back would be nice

Or an ever-encouraging cheer.

A call on the phone just to ask you,

‘How are you doing today?’

Or to drop in for tea and a visit,

if you are passing this way.

It’s not always praises that we’re needing

And were not sure just how it will end,

But think what I’d miss if I didn’t have you

For my faithful, true friend.

– Pat Hall

I had someone tell me I was snooty not long ago. Was I day dreaming? Was I in love, had I been hit on the bean and was in a daze? Actually, what you read is what you get “kind of” I think!

Happy New Year to the Expositor. I thank them for printing and copying (pretty well) everything I comment on. It doesn’t always quite make my meaning but….

“A pay it forward and,” I grant you all, for this year 2019 (It’s as easy as a smile and kindness.)

I had my son’s homemade blueberry venison sausage for lunch today, yummm. Long phone chat with Sherry later while the storm raged outside (Dave’s away), they called off Bingo.

Eileen phones this AM, says the school buses are cancelled. Side roads slippery. I woke up this morning thinking about Elaine Renton and LePage. Stay safe and off the ice/water.

I asked the cats lying beside me: Is there any reason to get up early? They ignored my question, so I guess I will too!

The Nature of Things and the northern lights, amazing.

Did you see Marketplace this week and all that plastic we have to deal with? How can we escape it here? You’ll be glad to know that Thursday is hot buttered rum day, today is “nothing day” and Sunday was “making your dreams come true day.” We could be busier, yes?

Cribbage on January 9, three-and-a-half tables: high hand, Brad, 24; first, Cal and I, 941; second, Brad and Dorothy, 934; third, Betty Jean and Bill, 891; first time we’ve ever had a third under 900 points; low, Hugh and Donna; door, Betty Jean; Wooden heart, Bobby Jo.

We hear Andy Watson has been in the hospital, thinking of you.

Bid euchre, three and a spare, blessings of one kind or another: first, Linda B, 232; second, Brad P, 208; third, Betty Jean, 174; low, Yogi “The Moon” Dave J., Marc C., Norma T.; door, Dave James. A lot of laughs today.

I was Betty Jean’s partner for euchre at Mindemoya for more fun there, winners: Dorothy and Ken and 10 lone hands (they were complaining about a low score?)

What a good lunch they serve up there. Friday, the Sr. U.C.W. meeting at Pauline’s. Sunny skies and darned chilly again. Betty Russell picked me up today. As always, an interesting meeting. They even sang Happy Birthday, to me. Lorna, Noreen, Betty Jean, Lynda (Pres), Elaine. Sounds like we’re gearing up for a busy year. One of the most important issues up for debate was smaller lunches at the meetings “NOT YET!”? Another to be “more” welcoming. Despite sleeping in, I got to Mindemoya in time for the “Tribute to Bruce Lee’s life of Faith.” A nice family and friends, for the stories, readings and eulogy. Carol seemed to be everywhere. At the lovely lunch I sat with Lynda G. and Marnie Bond on one side of me and Gloria D. and Jordan on the other. We chatted through the Bruce and Carol wedding trifle too. Lots of folks to say hello too. A full house! Beautiful music.

Talking about dreams today, I received a garden catalogue this week, used to be my spring bible as I lived for gardening. Now, I just envy those who can!

They turned the Missionary Church back to front since the last time I was in the sanctuary part and the space is larger. The beautiful wall hangings and quotes against the grey, quite lovely (maybe it’s front to back?)

Today after church at Carol’s and Earl’s they sang Happy Birthday, again. It must have something to do with my age, it goes on and on! Martin, Lynda, Pauline, Wayne and Elaine today. Always good topics/visiting. We see these folks from Bay Estates on occasion, always friends, today got names! Allan and Pay (Kay,) she celebrated her birthday December 24, happy belated. This week, Gloria Dickson celebrated hers on January 21; sister Peg was the 10th of January. Beautiful day today, sunshine wise. Pat Norvak said she saw the hugest “sun dog” this morning around 8 am. Must have been lots of frost particles in the air.

Ran into Susan and Gene Bebamash at Foodland on Saturday. They were away visiting with Shannon over the holiday (in Barrie I think?)
