The great Mindemoya Christmas tree lighting a success

MINDEMOYA—A large crowd attended the second annual Mindemoya Christmas tree lighting event on December 8. The occasion was organized by Jennifer Moffat Kenney and her husband Spencer and Ashleigh Moffat Keller and her husband Ryan. The two couples are the owners of Island Home Outfitters and Island Adventure Outfitters and Sports Rentals.

The idea for the event grew from a tradition that some community members remembered attending when they were young and they were encouraged to create their own ornaments and decorate the tree before it was lit.

Homemade ornaments from last year’s tree lighting were saved so people could put them on the tree again and will be saved each year. The beautiful tree was donated by Wayne Legge and the scissor lift used to string the lights was donated by Wally’s Septic.

The Moffat sisters, dressed as elves and handing out goodies, spoke with The Expositor and expressed their gratitude for the many businesses that aided with either cash donations or items such as treats, coffee and supplies. Rylan’s Clothesline had cookies, candy canes and Hershey’s treats for everyone, while other donors included Wilson’s, Jakes Home Centre, Kat’s Pet Supplies, Manitoulin Espresso Bar, Keller’s Garage, O’Bond and Sons Plumbing, Foodland, Guardian Pharmacy, Williamson’s and the Mindemoya Dental Centre. The music and PA system was provided by Isaac Gosse.

It was a very special event and it sure is beginning to look a lot like Christmas in downtown Mindemoya.
