Panther Points
The Manitoulin Panther Peewees have been rebuilding all year and have been more cohesive as the season has progressed and likely one of the more fit teams in the Nickel District league, thanks to their coaches and trainers. The team can use some encouragement in the stands this coming weekend as they have a double-header on Sunday. The local Panthers will host the Nickel City Jr. Sons Minor AA peewees at 11:30 am and 3:30 pm at the NEMI complex in Little Current if you can make it to check them out!
Why not make it a day and stay to watch the Bantams as they welcome the Nickel City Sharks Major A squad to face our local team at 5 pm. The eldest Panthers were at the Parry Sound Bobby Orr Classic where they lost their first two matches by just a single goal and won their final game 3 – 1 over the Stayner Cyclones.
Trudeau–Paquet continues to
impress in NOJHL and beyond
Congratulations to Gregory Trudeau–Paquet who has again demonstrated some amazing skills! Gregory tallied four points (one goal and three assists) in a recent game to be selected as first Star again. He is currently third in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s scoring race with his Kirkland Lake Gold Miners. The youngster has 15 goals in 23 games, just three behind the leader with 18 goals but with three more games played. Greg has helped his Gold Miners squad to second place in the NOJHL East with a game in-hand and only a point behind the first East leading Powassan Voodoos.
With that kind of production it was no surprise that he was selected to play for the NOJHL East all-star squad to compete in the Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge. The event now also includes the Maritime Hockey League (MHL) and will be hosted for a fifth time by the OJHL and the second based in Quinte West, Ontario. The prospect tourney goes from November 19 to the 21. This year’s event has grown to 12 teams which include two teams from each the MHL, QJAAAHL, CCHL and NOJHL and four teams from the OJHL. On Monday the NOJHL East fell late, to the LHJAAAQ entry. The game was scoreless in the first two stanza but then the Quebec team kicked on the after-burners to stun Greg and his team with five third period goals! Good luck this week, Greg!

Hats off to Wiikwemkoong’s Carson Shawana, a member of Sudbury’s Nickel City Sons AAA Major Bantams who was recently called up to play for the AAA Sudbury Wolves Minor Midget team to head east and play in a tournament in Quebec.
New Martial Arts opportunity
The Manitoulin School of Martial Arts is about to expand into a new area. The expanding school will now offer classes in Gore Bay in the New Year. Starting on Monday, January 14 classes will take place on successive Mondays from 6:30 to 8 pm at the Gore Bay Hall located at 52 Meredith Street in Gore Bay. Calling all Santa Shufflers and Elf Walkers
The annual Sudbury, 5km Santa Shuffle fun run and 1km Elf Walk will take place on Saturday, December 1 this year. The start and finish line will be at College Boreal on the LaSalle extension for easy access for all Manitoulin runners (and Christmas shoppers).
