Dreaming of a black Christmas with Ho-Ho Homicide murder mystery

MANITOWANING—Somebody is bound to get a lump of coal as Rainbow Ridge Golf Course (RRGC) hosts “a night of North Pole naughtiness” on Friday, November 23. That evening, its murder mystery event flies down the chimney and casts suspicion on everyone in the room.

“It’s just a night of a little bit of fun,” says John Dubé, general manager of RRGC. “We have two members from the Wiikwemkoong Development Commission who put these on.”

In addition to the main organizers, Mr. Dubé says players from Burns Wharf Theatre Company sometimes get involved in the productions as well. Murder mystery events like this are unique in that the audience gets to be involved in the show.

“Everyone else that buys a ticket to come, they’ll get an email a week before to get a character that they’ll have to read over to give them a theme of what to wear, what mindset they’re supposed to be in.”

Because of this interactive nature, Mr. Dubé says the murder mystery events are good opportunities to meet new people.

“People go about throughout the evening; there’s lots of mixing and mingling with people you don’t know.”

Mr. Dubé says this event will be a lot of fun and offer good laughs for all the participants.

“It’s really neat for people to have a great time and come out of themselves. People who are not as outgoing got really into their roles last time,” says Mr. Dubé. “It’s very much the same as the May event but the scenario this time is more challenging.”

For those less fond of solving murders, Mr. Dubé says the golf course has events like craft nights, a mentalist in collaboration with Debajehmujig Creation Centre on December 2 and its indoor golf league which will be starting on November 15.

Tickets to the licenced, 19+ event cost $35 and include a drink ticket and finger food, with special meals available for purchase at the clubhouse restaurant. Interested patrons can register and pay online. All the event’s details can be found on the RRGC Facebook page and website or in the course during opening hours.

The golf club is open from Thursday to Sunday in the off season from 11 am to 4:30 pm, beginning November 15.
