On Wednesday, October 24, the MSS cross-country team participated in the NOSSA Cross Country Championships in Sudbury. The senior girls placed fifth in their division! The senior girls team included: Beth Wiwchar, Ella Stewart, Larissa Chevrette, Gabriella Corbiere and Mackenzie Cortes. Great job, girls!
Also on Wednesday, October 24, there was a junior girls’ volleyball meeting for anyone that was interested in trying out for the team.
On Thursday, October 25 there was ‘round the world’ specials available in the caf at lunch. Each day there is a new special for lunch. Be sure to check it out and listen to the morning announcements to find out what is available daily!
Also on Thursday, October 25, the boys’ volleyball teams were in Elliot Lake for a tournament. The boys played very well and represented MSS with a smile! Great job, boys!
Today, October 31, the annual WE Scare Hunger event is underway. Students will be going around collecting non-perishable items in communities across the Island instead of trick or treating. The non-perishable items will be given to the living well locker at MSS and the Manitoulin Food Bank. Elementary students may also be participating. Food items can also be delivered directly to MSS today, October 31 or tomorrow, Thursday, November 1. Have a non-perishable food item ready for tonight!

The cast list for the musical ‘The Mikado’ is going to be posted today, October 31, on the musical bulletin board and on the Google Classroom. Be sure to check it out!

On Saturday, November 3, Laurentian University is having an open house from 10 am to 2 pm.
On Monday, November 5 there will be an important information meeting for students applying to College. The meeting will be from 10:30 to 11:30 am in C3/C5. Sign the list in the guidance office under “presentations” to be eligible to attend with an excused slip.
Also on Monday, November 5, picture retakes will be done. If you didn’t get the chance to get your picture taken in September or need a retake done, Lifetouch will be at the school on Monday.
On Tuesday, November 6, a representative from Sault University will be at MSS. If you are interested in attending, please sign the list that will be in the guidance office. For more information go to www.ouf.ca.
Boys hockey is underway! The boys’ team has already played four games and have done very well! Their latest game was on Monday, October 29 against Espanola. The team includes: Lucas Abotossaway, Connor Bellmore, Johnny Bushey, Maverick Bushey, Keegan Clarke, Ethan Corbiere, Shannon Debassige, Adam Goodfellow, Noah Hare, Janelle Manitowabi, Jayden Little, Ben Marshall, Nyron Panamick, Zack Paul, Matthew Redmond, Josh Robinson, Boston Thibault, Eric Varey and Jalen Waindubence.
KTSSHL card hockey is coming to MSS! Come out at lunch and learn how to play or to brush up on your skills in D7. League play will begin in November and carry on until Christmas.
Senior peer tutors are needed for math and English! Volunteer hours can be obtained by being a peer tutor as well as the joy of helping someone! Sign up in the guidance office.
What was the witch’s favourite subject in school? Spelling.
If you are currently in your last year of high school and plan to apply to a college or university, the TD Bank has a Scholarship for Community Leaders that offers up to four years of paid tuition.
