Joy Hopkin nee Cannard passed away peacefully at the Manitoulin Lodge in Gore Bay at the age of 95. Former resident of Spring Bay. Predeceased by husband Lloyd Hopkin. Loved mother of Reg (Gaye) of Keswick, Willis (predeceased) (Judi) of Kitchener, John of Mindemoya, Julia (Ron Lafontaine) of Mindemoya, Mark (predeceased) and Evan (Joyce) of Edmonton. Cherished grandmother of Sean (Heidi), Travis (Julie), Sarah, Adam (Jenn), Rachel, Marsha (Tim), Lisa (Jeff), Mark (Teresa), Matt and Derek. Great- grandma of Allyson, Hayden, Nessa, Jordyn, Alex, Dean, Ellie, Jeremy, Jovie, Fiona, Taren, Arden and Corben. Predeceased by siblings, D.O. Cannard (Sarah), Glen Cannard (Jean), Mary Jean Bates (Harold). Loved by many nieces and nephews. Joy was a wonderful mother, a great cook and an excellent baker. She farmed beside the love of her life for many years. She was a very hard worker. Very strong in faith. She enjoyed many hobbies like gardening, knitting, crocheting and sewing. She was very involved with the 4H Club, Women’s Institute, and did a lot of work with the mentally challenged. She was well known for her beautiful smile, she could light up a room with her charming wit. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the nursing home for their many years of care and compassion for “Momma Joy”. Family and friends gathered on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 5 pm until 8 pm at the Community of Christ Church in Providence Bay. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 10 am at the Community of Christ of Church with Lyle Dewar officiating. Burial to follow in the Providence Bay Cemetery. Donations may be made in Joy’s honour to the Manitoulin Lodge Nursing Home or to the Community of Christ Church. Island Funeral Home can only accept cheques for all memorial donations.
