Don’t forget that as of Labour Day weekend, the Providence Bay landfill hours have reverted back to a once-a-week schedule. They are now open only on Saturdays from 1 to 5 pm. Tipping fees are in effect and can be found on the Central Manitoulin website.
Happy Belated Anniversary wishes are sent out to Mark and Mary Jane Zahorouski as well as belated birthday wishes to Mark who celebrated on September 5, from George and Jocelyne Nuska. Belated birthday wishes also go out to Kathy Warner (nee Simpson) who also celebrated on September 5 along with Reg Gilchrist on September 8.
It sure is interesting to see some of the renovations that are going on to the former Huron Sands Hotel now run by Manitoulin Wonder Cubs Resort. They pulled the window coverings off and have allowed a lot more light into the central room of the resort. They are making breakfasts and lunches to satisfy a hearty appetite. Stop in to try it out. Lake Huron Fish and Chips as well as the Mutchmor and Peace Café will remain open Thursday-Sunday for the month of September. The Schoolhouse remains open but make sure to call first to make a reservation. It’s nice to have these options for dining and refreshments.
Get well soon wishes go out to Sherry McFarlane (nee Anderson) who has been spending time in the hospital recovering from surgery.
Wedding ceremony and celebrations were held for Alicia McAllister and Craig Young on Saturday, September 8 at the Providence Bay War Memorial Community Arena. Congratulations to the happy couple and their families.
Eddy and Betty Simpson are back visiting their cottage. It’s always a pleasure to see them back.
The geese and the Sandhill cranes have been congregating and preparing for their long flight south. The salmon have found their way into the Mindemoya River to spawn. Many fishermen can be seen trolling back and forth in the bay. They’re also lining the shoreline and river banks trying their luck at catching salmon.
Don’t forget to come out for the weekly euchre games that are held at the Twilight Seniors Club in the basement of the Providence Bay Community Centre every Tuesday at 8 pm. Everyone is welcome!
Campaign signs have been popping up alongside Ontario roadways. Make sure that you check the electors list at the Municipality of Central Manitoulin to ensure that your information is correct. This can be done during regular office hours. Also, come on out to the all candidates meeting at the Providence Bay Hall on Wednesday, September 12 from 7 to 9 pm.
Don’t forget that we’ve earned two-time bragging rights for winning the most community spirit for decorating for the Manitoulin Expositor contest for Harvest Glory Days. It’s that time again and we need to defend our title. Get out in your yards and start decorating with hay bales, pumpkins, corn stalks, leaves, scarecrows or any other way you see fit. Once you do, make sure to register your home into the contest by completing the form available in the paper. We have to make sure that the judges will see all of our creativity and hard work before the judging days of Thanksgiving arrives.
