Providence Bay News & Notes

The euchre tournament held on August 28 was well attended. The results were as follows: First place winners Sheila and Graham with 81 points; second place winners were Theresa and Mary with 74 points; third place winners were Janet and Glenn with 71 points; and fourth place winners were Dave and Laurene with 70 points. The lowest score winners were Reta and Eva. Regular weekly euchre games will resume on Tuesday, September 11 at 8 pm. You don’t need a partner for the regular weekly card games so come on out and try your luck and have some fun. All are welcome.

Happy Anniversary wishes go out to Amber and Desi Belcastro of Windsor who celebrated eight years of marriage on August 29. Amber is here visiting her parents Glen and Mona Bryan. Desi will be coming up later to attend the McAllister wedding. Also visiting his parents is Chris Bryan and wife Jess along with their three children of Red Deer, Alberta. Autumn is 5, Kennedy is 2 and grandson Jackson is five-months-old. Glen and Mona are enjoying having their family visiting. Glen and Chris went out salmon fishing with Fuel the Fire star and charter boat captain Neil Debassige. Chris caught a 13-pound salmon.

Ashley Noble and her partner Dylan Stone along with their children Tieren and Ayriss enjoyed a vacation off-Island. They went to Ayerscliff, Quebec to visit Dylan’s extended family. They also visited Gatineau, Lac Megantic and the Calyspso Water Park near Ottawa for a fun-filled splashing and sliding good time. Good memories made for this wonderful family.

We hope everyone enjoyed the last long weekend of the summer and for those who have children we hope that you’re all prepared and excited for the new school year ahead.

Helen and Randy and son Eric Meyers of Scarborough were up to visit friends Trevor and Ingrid Blay. They make it a point to visit their former neighbours at least twice a year and enjoy travelling around seeing new places and experiencing Island living at its finest. 

Alayna Cranston is off to Laurentian University, Kylie Cranston is off to University in North Bay and Brett Deeg was first visiting nana and mom over the long weekend before heading back to Cambrian College. We all wish you well with this year’s studies.

The Discover Centre will be open in September on weekends only from 12 to 3 pm and run by our wonderful volunteers. We are so lucky to have such caring and thoughtful folks here in Providence Bay who are always willing to help out wherever necessary. Thank you all.

Beginning September 4, the Voters List for the Municipality of Central Manitoulin will be available for inspection at the Municipal Office during regular office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. All electors should ensure that their names and relevant information are correct. There will be an all candidates meeting being held at the Providence Bay Hall on Wednesday, September 12 from 7 to 9 pm. Come on out and hear your candidates’ platforms.

It’s not too early to start thinking about our Providence Bay Halloween dance which is being put on by the Providence Bay/Spring Bay Lions Club on Saturday, October 27. Further details to come in the next few weeks. If you’d like, you can call Matt Young at 377-7149.
