KAGAWONG—While the tent campground units have been put off the board by the proponents of a plan that was to be considered by Billings Township council (to allow for a change in zoning ordinances to permit for a campground and glamping-motel units), the rest of the project, including the glamping-motel units, is still going forward.
“We’re really excited about the project. The scope of the project is still moving ahead,” said Sandi Hurcomb who, along with Susie Harrison of SH2, are the proponents of the project. “The zoning application for the camping units has been put off and there are a couple of reasons we put the breaks on this. This decision, by the way, was made prior to us having any knowledge of a petition (opposing the campground units) being circulated. We had decided to prioritize everything and looked at the possible restrictions that could be put on the campground and decided to go ahead with the rest of the project.”
Ms. Hurcomb explained, “we have permits in place for four different buildings and are going ahead with them. This includes Bare Naked Beauty and a spa, a coffee house and a double unit 1890s log cabin for two, year-round glamping-motel units and one post and beam single glamping unit. All of these are already zoned and approved through the Manitoulin Planning Board (MPB).”
The new development is taking place in Kagawong on the property off Highway 540 formerly known as the mini-putt.
