Discovery Centre students host Manitoulin Streams Day

PROVIDENCE BAY—The Discovery Centre, located in Providence Bay, was full of smiling faces and curious questions on Thursday, July 12. Children attending the Summer Fun Program hosted by the Municipality of Central Manitoulin got a chance to take part in an exciting day led by Manitoulin Streams, and spent their afternoon learning about invasive species and conservation.

The event began with a scavenger hunt, colouring pages, matching games and more.

Community liaison Rebecca Dawson and Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters Invasive Species Specialist Maddie Wagar answered many questions and provided pamphlets to Discovery Centre visitors throughout afternoon as well.

The day was capped off with a nature walk that toured through the various projects Manitoulin Streams has done along the boardwalk and beach. The tour featured work done to the Mindemoya River including rock walls and weirs, as well as the results of the newly completed beach cleanup projects.
