GORE BAY—The Town of Gore Bay was a great place to relax, kick back and enjoy Canada Day celebrations this past Sunday, July 1.
The day began with children of all ages taking part in the bicycle party parade that started at C.C. McLean Public School and travelled downtown. The parade was sponsored by the Bank of Montreal, which also had a float in the parade.
Among others participating in the parade were the Gore Bay-Gordon/Barrie Island Fire Department, ambulance paramedics and the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. After the parade concluded all these participants put on demonstrations of the work they do and the equipment they use. For instance, the fire fighters handed out plastic firemen’s hats to the youngsters in attendance.
After the parade, kids had fun on the slip and slide track behind BMO.
From 2 pm until 1 am, the Gore Bay Western Manitoulin Royal Canadian Legion Branch 514 hosted live music featuring the bands Deadline, Double Barrel, Damien T. Blues and The Uppers. As well, there was a beer garden set up and a Wash N’ Toss competition was held.

Once dusk arrived, a spectacular fireworks show was put on by the Gore Bay-Gordon/Barrie Island Fire Department, held at the town breakwater.
