It’s hard to believe that it’s already July. It seems like it was just spring and now, already, the farmers have made their first cut of hay and it’s all baled and growing a second batch. The kids are all done school and summer holidays have begun.
The high scores for the monthly euchre tournament in June were as follows: first place was Mike/Sue team with 79 points; second place was won by Sandra/Ann with 75 points; third place winners with 73 points were Kal/Lilly. Right behind them was Sharon/Roger with 71. The low score of the night was George/Gayle. The most lone hands was a tie with 6 points each going to Sandra/Ann and Bev/Sally. The next tournament will be the last Tuesday in July which falls on the 31st.
Anna Delamorandiere-Neill was home from British Columbia to attend daughter Marley’s graduation and to visit with family and friends.
Congratulations to our locally known graduates receiving their secondary diplomas. Alayna Cranston, Morgan Hall, Madisen McAllister, Marley Neill and Eric Orford. The beautification committee is reminding us all about the importance of bees to our food supply and ecology. They recently sent out packets of wildflower seeds for people to plant and promote a bee friendly world. As part of this ongoing endeavor, they have a travelling bee that is being placed in the flower gardens that are maintained by the beautification committee. The bee has been spotted in the garden right here in Providence Bay outside the Harbour Centre. You are encouraged to take a picture with the bee and tweet it @centralupdate. You can also post on other social media sites with the hashtag #BringBackTheBees
There were so many people out enjoying our beautiful beach on the Canada Day Long Weekend. The high temperatures and humidity made it the perfect place to be. We’re so lucky to have this wonderful natural attraction right in our own backyards.
The Canada Day festivities were a fantastic success. They had kids’ games on the beach, the cake was delicious, the local band The Islanders was a delight to listen to and the fireworks were an amazing display.
Many local communities have issued fire bans due to extremely dry conditions. Although Central Manitoulin hasn’t issued a ban as of press time, we just want to remind you to be safe and ensure that your fire is in a contained pit with water available. Make sure the fire is completely extinguished when you are done.

The final curling club breakfast will be held Thursday, July 5.
The Huron Island Time ice cream shop is hosting their first concert in the Sunset Concert Series 2018 on the boardwalk Friday, July 6 at 7 pm. The first band in the series will be the Kagawong Folk Society. Come on out for some ice cream and beautiful outdoor entertainment.
Ride Manitoulin Motorcycle Rally is quickly approaching. This fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Society will be held Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14. There will be many activities for the bikers as well as licensed charity fundraiser dances with live bands playing both Friday and Saturday nights. The public is invited to attend the fairgrounds to enjoy our food vendors and all activities. Tickets are available in advance. The cost is $15 per night but $25 if you buy for both nights in advance.
