Grey Bruce Livestock Cooperative Auction Report

GREY-BRUCE—The Thursday, May 3 spring sale at the Grey Bruce Livestock Cooperative in Wiarton saw 422 head of cattle on offer, 226 steers and 196 heifers.

The price for steers was as follows: 300-500 lbs, $185-$231; 500-600 lbs, $206-$238; 600-700 lbs, $204-$224; 700-800 lbs, $202-$215.75; and 800-1,000 lbs, $150-$188.

For heifers, the prices were as follows: 400-500 lbs, $165-$219; 500-600 lbs, $177-$212; 600-800 lbs, $196.25-$220.

Heifers in the guaranteed open range, 300-600 lbs, fetched between $176-$216 and for 600-800 lbs, $169-$215.50.

“Top quality grass cattle including Charolais cross, red angus, black angus, Hereford, Simmental, Limousin and Gelbveih (pronounced gelp-fee) sold at higher prices than current market trends,” the Livestock Cooperative reports.
