GORE BAY—The Friends of the Harbour Centre have personally hand knitted 12 beautiful quilts that will be going to children with cancer.
Each of the quilts has an inscription on it that explains, “this quilt has been made with lots of love and tiny stitches by grammas, Oumas, Nanas at the Harbour Centre in Gore Bay, Manitoulin Island 2018.”
The four ladies who took part in this project include Andrea Emmerton, Kathie Mutch, Helen Mossey and Dorette Carter. “We decided to make these quilts for children who have cancer and are in the cancer centre in Sudbury,” said Ms. Emmerton.
“We are doing another project to benefit the harbour centre as well,” said Ms. Emmerton.
The quilts come in different sizes, and each beautiful quilt is done with activities stitched on them. All the quilts are hand knitted from scratch and each has a flannelette back so the quilt can be put in for children to take and then bring back.
