MSS Kids in the Halls

As the weather finally gets warmer, MSS gets busier. Mr. Theijsmeijer is busy organizing the Spring Talent show and the Spring Evening concert. As a special addition to the concert, the elementary school bands from Assiginack Public School and Central Manitoulin Public School came to MSS on April 25 to learn a coordinated piece. The MSS Senior Band mentored the younger musicians to give them special insight into their instruments, and at the concert the group will be performing all together. The talent show will take place on April 26 during the last period of the day. Students can buy out of their class for two dollars to come watch their peers. The evening concert will take place the same evening.

On April 26, SHARE/Go Green is having a bake sale during lunch to raise money for their Brick by Brick campaign. The campaign is to raise $10,000 to donate to the WE Charity for funding to build a school in Tanzania. Baking varying from cookies to truffles will be available. The bake sale will continue during the evening concert for community members that same evening. SHARE is also organizing their WE Day Manitoulin event to encourage community involvement in youth across Manitoulin Island and in secondary schools across the Rainbow District School Board.

The Three Fires Confederacy is organizing this year’s powwow for April 27. The theme this year is the importance of friendship—Wiich-Ken-Do-Win. The event will go from 12 to 2:30 pm and will be held for all of the MSS student body and guests from some of the elementary schools. Ethan Mejaki will be the master of ceremonies, and the arena director will be Shade Kaiser-Fox. The head dancers will be Pierre Debassige, Grade 11; Noah Hare, Grade 9; and Aryanna Pitawanakwat-Recollet, Grade 10. The Grand Entry will include representatives from each of the groups and clubs at MSS, as well as all of the dancers and the head veteran, Blair Sampson. The event is being led by Ms. McGraw, Ms. Jones and Mr. Trudeau.

Ticket sales for the MSS Grad Dance started on Monday, April 23. Ticket sales will continue until May 25, daily at lunch in the cafeteria. The cost is $8 per person and $12 per couple. Students who want to come to the masquerade dance but don’t have a ride can sign the late bus list that is in the main office. There will be buses leaving MSS at 11:10 pm, one going to take home students from the east end of the Island and the other going to the west. Students’ Council has also been busy overseeing the Spy Master game. Those players who are still in the game had their targets switched on Wednesday, April 25. The prize for winning this year is a $300 gift card to Best Buy.

Now that the snow is finally melting, MSS Mustangs are jumping into all of the Spring activities around the school.

‘Til next time, stay golden, Mustangs.
