Concept of goose communication skills challenged

Local theme seems to be ‘if it is on my property, kill, kill, kill it’

To the Expositor:

I was just reading the article that Mr. Skippen is appealing the ruling by the judge about killing the goose (front page, last week). First he says it was a message to other geese that this would not be tolerated; well I really do not think that geese would get this message. I think he should have got a stiffer penalty as it is the migration of birds to land in certain fields and come on, they have been doing that since before all of us were born.

It seems that the local theme is if it is on my property kill, kill, kill it. I think this is abhorrent behaviour. Surely we can all get along with wildlife not just get rid of it. Humans have messed up the earth and we all need to do our bit to make the Island habitable for all.

Getting back to the supposed idea that geese would see this dead one tied to a pole and say to his friends and relatives ‘Hey we better not land there, Fred’ is very amusing to me as I really don’t think geese have chats like that. Very funny indeed, if not so unintelligent.

Please do not let this be over thrown as it would be a great disadvantage for a lot of people.

Thank you,
