MANITOULIN—The snowmobile season is officially underway. As of Monday, the groomer had begun making a pass of the Manitoulin Snowdusters Snowmobile Club trails.
“The east end groomer has gone from Little Current to Mindemoya as of today (Monday),” said Snowdusters media spokesperson Brad Middleton. The groomer was to make the pass to Sheguiandah (where the trail ends) on Tuesday.
“The West End groomer went from Gore Bay to M’Chigeeng and back (on the new trail) last Friday and Saturday,” he continued. “The West End Groomer then went from Gore Bay to Providence Bay and Mindemoya Monday.”
The West End groomer was then headed for points further west, to Silver Water and Meldrum Bay, on Tuesday. “But it’s such a big area that it won’t be done up there until about Thursday,” Mr. Middleton added.
Mr. Middleton noted that even though the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs website still says that Manitoulin trails are not open, “we will have given most of them the once over by the time your paper hits the streets on Wednesday. The season is underway.”
Fingers crossed that the rain scheduled for this week passes us by.
The ice trail stake lines had not been put in as of press time Monday.
