Gore Bay arena hosts holiday hockey clinic

GORE BAY—The Gore Bay arena will once again be the venue for a hockey clinic, open to all Manitoulin Island youngsters, during the upcoming holidays.

“The hockey clinic will be run by Roger Chenard,” said Dave Hillyard, Gore Bay arena manager. “The Gore Bay Arena Christmas hockey clinic Initiation age level to Bantam age level clinic will take place December 27, 28, 29 from 6 to 9 pm.”

The initiation level kids’ clinic will take place from 6 to 7 pm each day of the hockey clinic, with the novice and atom level kids on the ice from 7 to 8 pm and the peewee and bantam level players to be on the ice from 8 to 9 pm each day. He pointed the number of players that can register has been set at 60, with each participant receiving three one hour on ice sessions. Registration is $30.

“We just felt again this year the hockey camp would give kids something fun to do over the holidays,” said Mr. Hillyard. He stressed the camp is open to kids from all around Manitoulin Island. Each participant needs to provide full equipment.

Last year the hockey camp drew a total of 30 players.

Mr. Chenard has had extensive experience coaching kids’ hockey on all levels, in the NOHA, AA, AAA, and house leagues in Sudbury and Valley East. He even worked at the Garson arena while he was in Grade 9-13 at school.

Deadline for registration is December 23, and to register or get more information call the Gore Bay arena at 705-282-2012.
