TEHKUMMAH—2017 marked the 40th year of formal operation for the Tehkummah Volunteer Fire Department, and their recent Christmas Dinner for volunteers, their families and guests recognized this significant accomplishment.
In conjunction with the 40 years, long term awards were presented to firefighters Gary Brown and Lyle Gordon (unable to attend the presentation). The recognition from the Office of the Fire Marshall, the Province of Ontario, and the Federal Government included service awards, uniform pins and thanks from Fire Chief Jeff Wilson.
“Forty years of community service to the protection of life and property is a remarkable accomplishment,” commented the fire chief, and they additionally received further justified recognition from their firefighter peers.
The Tehkummah Volunteer Fire Department completed the building of a new fire hall in 2012 which houses two pumper units, one tanker unit, and a First Response unit in addition to various firefighting, lifesaving and pollution prevention equipment. A modern training room, office, kitchen, washrooms and showers comprise the remainder of the fire hall.
Eighteen volunteer firefighters and first responders are dedicated to serving the Township of Tehkummah for fire protection and first response medical services. Bi-weekly practices for training ensures compliance with safety and response standards.
