M’CHIGEENG—The annual Manitoulin Secondary School Share/Green committee ‘We Scare Hunger’ door to door collection of non-perishable food goods for the Manitoulin Family Resources was once again a huge success this year!
“We had about 40 students going door to door in communities all around Manitoulin collecting non-perishable food on Halloween night,” Yana Bauer, a teacher at MSS, told the Recorder on Tuesday. She pointed out the MSS Share/Go Green committee holds this event on an annual basis. “It is a great way for the students and the school to give back; and it’s fun because normally the students would not be able to go out on Halloween night and wear costumes.”
“People are really good and supportive of this event,” said Ms. Bauer.
Ms. Bauer noted that last year the school collected 400 non-perishable food items for the food bank, “and our goal and hope is to collect 800 items this year.” She pointed out Charles C. McLean is helping out having collected items at a Halloween dance held last weekend, and Little Current Public School is participating, with other schools possibly taking part as well in collecting non-perishable items.
“As well, the staff members and (MSS) students who are not taking part in the door to door collection are also going to be bringing in non-perishable food items (Wednesday),” said Ms. Bauer.
“All the food items collected are going to be going to Manitoulin Family Resources-Manitoulin Food Bank,” said Ms. Bauer. She added that MSS student Marshall Maciuk, a member of the Share/Go Green committee, organized the ‘We Scare Hunger’ event.
