Steve and Kerry Barclay lost their cat on their last visit, so poor Luna had to fend for herself until caught by sister-in-law Karen Cranston. They were up for an unexpected visit to pick Luna up. They (Steve) will forever be in her debt.
The monthly euchre tournament scores were as follows: First place went to Sally/Bev team with a whopping 83 points. Second place winners were Linda/Marg team with 76 points. Third place was taken by Jim/Fred team with 75 points. And finally, fourth place winning team was Dave/Laurene with 74 points. The low hand was a tie between Wilma/Kal team and George/Gayle. The most lone hands was also a tie between Dave/Laurene and Sally/Bev. A good time was had by all.
Congratulations to Keith McAllister who has retired officially as of October 30 after 34 years of employment.
The Providence Bay Community Centre Board is looking for new member and/or volunteers for the upcoming Fowl Supper. Their regular meeting is being held Wednesday, November 1 at 7:30 pm at the Providence Bay Hall. All are welcome to attend.
The Mindemoya River is open to fishing again from the bridge on Highway 551/542 (Mindemoya Dam) downstream to the bridge on Highway 551 (Mindemoya Bridge). It was closed as a fish sanctuary from September 25 to October 31. Coho salmon and rainbow trout will be coming starting in the next week or so. So bundle up and get your rods ready.
Don’t forget about the monthly curling club breakfast that will be held on Thursday, November 2 from 7-9 am. Come on out and support this fundraiser.
It’s almost time for daylight savings time to end. Sunday, November 5 at 2 am it will be time to turn your clocks back one hour to 1 am. Sunrise and sunset will be about one hour earlier on November 5 than the day before. Soon it will be lighter in the mornings. Hurray!
The Annual Providence Bay Meat Spiel will soon be coming up. This is an open bonspiel (men, women, or some combination). The first 16 teams will be accepted, $180 per team, three games guaranteed plus the blind Calcutta and the Saturday evening meal. All prize packages contain a variety of meat products from Manitoulin Island Meats, plus there will be other fun meat prizes throughout the weekend. We’ve been thinking about our fantastic little village on the bay and what amazing people we have living here. We’d like to give a shout out to Lyle and Sharon Dewar. They are just wonderful people who are so generous and giving with their time. They help out anywhere that they can and do so with love. Their faith is evident to all and an admirable quality. Lyle has officiated at quite a number of ceremonies locally and he sure loves Providence Bay. We really enjoy hearing him and his band play at various functions. Sharon is just such a joy and her smile is contagious. She never has a bad word to say to anyone.
We’d like to continue doing community shout outs in the Providence Bay News and Notes every couple of weeks. If there is someone that you’d like to give a shout out to, please let us know. And in fact, if you have anything that you would like to contribute, please let us know. We know that there is a lot going on in our community but let’s allow everyone to know.
