Dear Editor:
Sunday, September 10 is National Grandparent’s Day in Canada. I wrote this poem about grandkids and how they add so much to our lives. I just wanted to share my poem with other grandparents on our special day. Thank you, Maxim, Layla, Owen, Caden and Hunter for all the fun and laughs and happiness you bring into our lives. Grandma and Poppa Hore.
Grandchildren
We raised our children
And thought we could rest
But then came the grandkids
And they put us to the test
Come play with us
You can’t be worn out
You’re not that old
To run, jump and shout
We can run and play tag
Or hide and go seek.
We’ll even count first
We promise not to peek
OK, let’s play something else
More easy if you like
Poppa come watch us outside
While we ride on the trike
Or pull us in the wagon
we don’t have to go too far
and we won’t need to buckle
like we do in the car
LOOK, we found some bugs
Can you hold them for us
Awh, Grandma, don’t wash our faces
It’s fun getting all dirty
we’ll wash when we’re old
and we have to look perty
We need a drink and a snack
Cookies and tea for dunking, please
We know you have some
Please don’t be a tease
It’s soon time to go home
and get ready for bed.
Can we come again tomorrow?
That’s what our parent’s said!
They told us if we were good
We can come back after we nap
Or, we could just sleep over
We could pack our backpack
But we guess you need a rest
after all you’re looking tired
raising your kids and now us
no wonder you can’t get fired
You love us to pieces
and we love you too
see you tomorrow Grandma and Poppa
hugs and kisses for you.
