Wiikwemkoong trio charged with trafficking and possession

WIIKWEMKOONG—On August 19, the Wikwemikong Tribal Police conducted an investigation into the offence of possession for the purpose of trafficking. As a result of the investigation, the Wikwemikong Tribal Police arrested two males and one female from Wiikwemkoong for possession for the purpose of trafficking and seized a quantity of hydromorphcontin and marijuana along with offences related property. 

Police also seized police issued pepper spray. The value of the property seized had an estimated street value of $4,000. 

Charged is a 45-year-old male with two counts possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule I and II substance; one count possession of schedule II substance; one count possession of property obtained by crime; one count possession of a prohibited weapon; and four counts of breach of recognizance of bail.

A 31-year-old female has also been charged with two counts possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule I and II substance contrary to s.  5 (2) of the Controlled Drug Substance Act (CDSA); one count possession of property obtained by crime contrary; and one count possession of a prohibited weapon.

A 30-year-old female of Wiikwemkoong has also been charged with two counts possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule I and II substance contrary to s.  5 (2) of the Controlled Drug Substance Act (CDSA); one count possession of schedule I substance; one count possession of property obtained by crime; and one count possession of a prohibited weapon.

The 31-year-old female and the 30-year-old female were released on a promise to appear and will attend court in Wiikwemkoong on September 20 to answer to their charges.

The 45-year-old male was remanded into custody and was released from Gore Bay court on August 21.
