On July 2, 2017 at 12:30 a.m., the Espanola Police were conducting R.I.D.E. spot-checks on Highway 6 at Old Webbwood Road, Espanola, when a vehicle driven by a 21-year old male from McKerrow, pulled up to the spot-check.
In speaking to the driver, the officer detected the odour of both alcohol, and fresh Marihuana coming from the interior of the vehicle, and when questioned about the odour, the driver denied having consumed alcohol, or Marihuana. Investigation revealed that the driver had 9 grams of Marihuana on his person, as well as 1.38 grams of Cocaine. He was also in possession of open liquor inside the vehicle.
As a result of the spot-check, the male driver was charged with two counts of possession a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and issued a Provincial Offence Notice for drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act. He appeared in Espanola Court on July 31, 2017, to answer to his charges.
