A suggested reading list on the history of Canada’s relations with its indigenous partners

Kudos to John Van Veen for graciously confronting Mr. Lewis, the author of the racist whine about the recent colourful improvements to the Chi-Cheemaun. I was reluctant to stick my paddle in to the waters, as I would not likely have been as circumspect. I am proud to live where the wonderful local Native culture is usually honoured, so this sentiment was an unexpected shock! Of course, racism is not dead in Canada the good.
However, with the upcoming celebrations planned for Canada’s 150th birthday it seems long past time to set the record straight about the First Nations fundamental role in the founding of our mixed-blood indigenous culture, called Canada. Those curious to be illuminated on this subject could wisely invest the time reading the excellent book, ‘A Fair Country: Telling Truths About Canada’ by John Ralston Saul.
