Did anyone play an April fools joke on you? Or did you manage to fool someone instead?
On Thursday, March 30, the girl’s basketball team went to Sudbury Secondary School for the Rainbow District School Board basketball tournament. The girls played three games, but couldn’t clinch a playoff spot. The second game was quite the nail-biter, as the girls lost by only a few points. Good job girls! You did the Colts proud!
The boy’s basketball team had a tournament on April 6-7.
Last Friday, March 31, was Autism Awareness Day, students and staff wore blue to support people with Autism.
Also on March 31, it was Jump Rope for Heart kick-off day! In the last block of the day, students from Grades 3-6 participated in a presentation about Jump Rope for Heart. Between now and April 13, the students will be going door to door gathering donations for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online donations are also accepted. If you know a student that is in Grade 3-6 from C.C. McLean P.S. and don’t live close, you can donate on-line. Donations go to the Heart and Stroke Foundation for research.
Have you heard of Reading Buddies? Well, Mrs. Flood’s grade 1’s and Ms. Burlein’s grade 6’s get together on Fridays after second nutrition break for reading buddies. Each Grade 1 student has an assigned “buddy,” who helps them learn simple computer tasks and practice their reading skills. This year, the Grade 6’s helped the grade 1’s to log-in to the chrome books at the start of the year. Now the Grade 1’s are using Reading Eggs and Raz-kids to learn to read. This is a good experience for both grade 1 and Grade 6 students.
Last week, C.C. McLean Public School got some exciting news! We won $25,000 in the Staples Superpower Your School Contest! The contest was open to schools that were finding different ways to be environmentally friendly. The school was entered in December, 2016. We were the only elementary school to win in Ontario and one of five elementary schools in Canada!
Each school that entered was asked to describe their innovative and environmental efforts.
Great job everyone!
Joke of the week. What’s the difference between a cat and a comma?
A cat has claws at the end of paws; A comma is a pause at the end of a clause.
Upcoming events include OPP Canine Unit demonstration.
Until next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
