3 on 3 comes home!
Manitoulin has a great opportunity to have their own 3 on 3 hockey competition this year and perhaps future years depending on participation. The Island’s first 3 on 3 will take place at the NEMI Centre between 6 – 9th.
Each team is guaranteed four games and there are plenty of top-notch awards for both as individuals and teams. Also included is also a skills competition on the Friday night when some further great awards will be presented.

Local product, Carson Shawana, a big-hulking defenseman with the Nickel City Sons “AAA” Major Peewees is in the finals of the NOHL AAA League. Although they had a very good year with a 18-8-2 record they fell three straight.
Island draft pick “pointing” up the standings
The Island’s Dylan Bond, a draft pick with the O.H.L.’s Saginaw Spirit is playing “AAA” Midget hockey in North Bay this year. Dylan is a 5’10”, 165lb forward. To date he has registered 31 points in 36 games consisting of 14 goals and 7 assists. Keep up the hard work, Dylan.
Northern Ontario can produce premium players
Southern Ontario usually takes northern Ontario lightly when faced with their provincial rivals. This past week Team NOHA took on the best from Ontario and came home without a loss. Unfortunately this 1-0-3 record left them out of the playoffs. Nonetheless they were competitive in the 20 team tournament known as the O.H.L. Showcase. The NOHA team took the 3 – 1 win over the Toronto Titans, a 1-1 tie with the Waterloo Wolves, a 3-3 draw against the Whitby Wildcats (ranked #2 in the Province) and a 4-4 lock with the Vaughn Vipers.
This bodes well for the North Ontario lads who are just in the 2001 birth-dates and yet eligible for the upcoming OHL Major Junior Draft. The players from the Great North Midget League represented Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Kapuskasing and New Liskeard. Keep your ears open for the name. Cam Barker of the Greyhounds who was a Tournament All-star.
Little N.H.L. Hockey!
Wiky Peewee Girls
At last week’s Little N.H.L. tournament down in Mississauga the Wikwemikong Peewee girls’ In game 1 they lost to Whitefish River 2-0, Game 2 was a win over C.M.O. United 8-0, Game 3 in the A Semi was a win over the previous winning squad from Whitefish River, 2-0. In the A finals the team lost the North Shore’s Serpent River by a nail biting 2-1 tally. Congratulations to players Jorja Peltier, Victoria Trudeau, Ava Assinewai, Ronni Peltier, Thuraya Williams, Niibin Pitawanakwat, Katrina Debassige, Haley Manitowabi, Raven Bolton-Pheasant, J-Lynn Pangowish, Danika Manitowabi, Kaylee Assinewai, Lilly-Anna Osawamick, Hope Osawamick, Myra Maione, Aysia Francis-Debassige and Alexandra Nolan and of course the staff including: Coaches: Shelley Trudeau and Brent Assinewai; Assistant Coach Gerrilyn Manitowabi and Manager Tamey McAllister.
Wiky T-Bird Tykes
In the younger set the Wiky Jr. T-Bird Tykes Coach and Manager, Jesse Peltier took his young charges to the semi-finals. Thanks to his roster including: Koda Peltier, Logan Peltier, Easton Assinewai, Sean Simon, Piercin Cooper, Alexie Pelletier, Taidym Gonawabi, Damien Dell, Terran Eshkawkogan, Brayden Armstrong, Chase Recollet and Jolten Pitawanakwat.
Their run included a Game 1, W over Kettle & Stoney Point 16-2, Game 2: W over Nikee Jr: 14-9, Game 3: W over Six Nations: 4-1, Game 4: a win over Atikameksheng: 7-1 and Game 5: A-Semi was unfortunately a loss to Walpole Island 10-7.
AOK Eagle Bantams
Among the more impressive accomplishments were the Aundek Omni Kaning competitive peewee Eagles took the gold in beating Akwesasne 4 -2.
Wikwemikong Midgets
In the Midget competition the Wikwemikong Prospects earned a silver medal after a tough 3-2 O.T. loss to the Nipissing Warriors.
In the semis the team with just a single goal of the stick of local Tanner Webkamigad. Also, in their first game, Greg Trudeau-Paquet electrified the crowd with an impressive five-point performance (3g, 2a) to garner Wiky’s first victory.
AOK Bantam, golden Eagles
In the Bantam boys’ competition the A.O.K. Bantam Competitive Eagles took top of the podium in a 5-0 victory over Moose-Cree.
