In the fall, we were inundated with forecasts of a long, hard winter, but so far this hasn’t been the case. We sure had a warm spell in February that has even confused the geese who have returned to our winter wonderland. There have even been reports of people that have already collected and boiled down some sap to make delicious maple syrup. Then we were hit with a wicked snow storm last week that blanketed the area with another foot of snow and brought back frigid temperatures. This caused many to speculate that March has come in like a lion. We can only hope.
The winners of the monthly euchre tournament were as follows: First, Bill and Laura with 94; second, Marcel and Deanie with 80; third, Ken and Marilyn with 80 as well; and fourth was Donna and Eva with 77 points. Bill and Laura were also the winners of the most lone hands with a whopping 9 of them. The low hand winners were George and Gayle. We won’t mention their score. A good time was had by all.
Just a reminder going out that the Manitoulin Snowdusters’ have pulled all of their picket lines and crossings across the ice have been closed all across Manitoulin and towards Killarney. This is in response to fluctuating temperatures causing unsafe ice conditions. Please people, if you’re heading out fishing, be sure of the ice surface that you are on. Be safe.
Renovations have begun on the Providence Bay Centennial Hall to install a wheelchair accessible washroom making the hall accessible to all. The word is that the old ticket booth will now be taken over as the new accessible washroom.
Don’t forget that it’s the time of year again for our clocks to spring ahead by 1 hour. Daylight savings time begins this year at 2 am on Sunday, March 12. This is also the time that is recommended to check the batteries and operation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home.
The annual 4 on 4 Bradley McAllister wind up hockey tournament is coming up on March 24–26th at the Providence Bay Arena. There are 3 categories to enter: Sportsman, Ladies, and 40 & over. The contacts this year to enter your team is Ben and Roz Seabrook. There is also a Facebook page.
