Manitoulin to host Northern Ontario Forum for Food, Farms and Tourism

MANITOULIN—Manitoulin will be hosting the Northern Ontario Forum for Food, Farms and Tourism—a day of networking, workshops and education for anyone in the food industry interested in the farm-to-table movement—on Wednesday, March 29 from 8 am to 4 pm at the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre.

The day will begin with registration and a buffet breakfast featuring regional ingredients at 8 am, followed by opening remarks at 9 am.

The morning sessions will start with a facilitated discussion: ‘Knowing our Ingredients’ and ‘Defining Food Tourism and the Characteristics of a Food Visitor’ with Rebecca Mackenzie.

The other morning sessions include: growing local from LAMBAC and an Iron Chef Challenge with six local restaurants.

There will be a lunch break with a buffet featuring regional ingredients at 12:30 pm.

The afternoon sessions will include two facilitated discussions: delivering the ingredients, defining a destination’s taste of place and meeting the food tourists expectations and; knowing our equipment, understanding market readiness across the food tourism value chain and how to grow your business through offering an authentic taste of place.

The afternoon will conclude with speed dating or networking for producers, restaurants and businesses.

The event is being organized by the Culinary Tourism Alliance in partnership with  LAMBAC, The Northeast Town, Waubetek, the Owen Sound Transportation Company and the North46 Restaurant.
