Providence Bay News & Notes

Maureen Eadie has returned safely from a holiday in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. She enjoyed shopping at the local market, took a glass bottom boat ride to see the dolphins and sea life in the port, toured the rain forest and went for catamaran ride which was at her resort. The weather was great and always in the 30s with beautiful sunshine. What a difference from here, but we’ll get there soon enough. She’s very appreciative of her sister Mary Eadie and friend Kevin Patterson for keeping six on her house and taking care of her dogs while she was gone.

Rebecca Dawson our Providence Bay Fair Ambassador visited Toronto with her mother Dawn. They attended the 2017 Convention of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies. (OAAS) at The Fairmont Royal York. They were there to attend the ambassadors program but it’s a big convention and there were other opportunities there as well for all of the ambassadors from fairs in Ontario. There were numerous workshops, seminars, round table discussions and the keynote speaker was modern farmer Andrew Campbell from Middlesex County who is also known as the Fresh Air Farmer.

Due to Family Day weekend we had an earlier deadline for the column this week. At this point we are still looking ahead to the Ladies Bonspiel being held at the Providence Bay Curing Club. The theme this year is prom. We will follow up with a report of the winners of each event in next week’s paper.

It’s so nice to see that the days continue to get longer with more daylight hours each day. We are now getting around ten and a half hours of daylight each day with sunrise around 7:30 am and sunset approximately at 6 pm. Although we’re not over winter yet we’re over the hump. As of today, February 22, there are 25 days left until the first day of spring.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the monthly euchre tournament being held the last Tuesday of each month. This month, it falls on February 28.
