GORE BAY—Welcome to Colts Going Strong! If you would like to know what is new and exciting at C.C. McLean Public School, this column will keep you up to date on the latest events.

I am happy to say that speeches are over for some, while a few students are still preparing for the competition in the gym being held on Wednesday, February 15th at 6:30 pm. If you’re looking for something to do then consider attending our public speaking event!

To close off the volleyball season, the teachers played the student volleyball teams. The teachers won the games against the girls’ team, co-ed A team, and the co-ed B team. The boys’ team now has the bragging rights as they beat the teachers!

Every game had many great plays and lots of effort from everyone. All classes got to watch the games from the sidelines. Don’t worry, no little kids were hurt! There were a few close calls, but nothing major.

During one of the games, Ms. Burlein even created a new move. It has not been named yet but, she bumped the ball with her back! Way to go, Ms. Burlein! Congratulations teachers, the boys’ team and everyone else.

There were two Science and Technology competitions that happened in the past week. The Manitoulin Technology Competition was the first to occur. On February 9, four teams (two junior teams and two intermediate teams) of four students each headed to Central Manitoulin Public School to compete in four scientific challenges. The four challenges were an egg drop, a straw tower, a mystery challenge and a glider challenge. The second competition to occur was the Technology Day in Lively, on February 10. A total of 20 students from grades 7 and 8 were selected to participate. All of our students did very well! A word of advice for the competitors: Every time you are building or experimenting with something just remember: Do not trust atoms; they make up everything (get it?)!

Upcoming events include skating, Spirit Day (Valentine’s Day), chess tournament, and public speaking finals in the gym! More details to come when events are closer.

Until next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
