RV Park
Sue Morin gave a deputation to council proposing the Northeast Town build an RV park at Spider Bay Marina.
“Motorhomers love to shop and eat out as well as replenishing supplies,” explained Ms. Morin. “I have stayed in several marina combined sites, the best of all is in Fort Townsend in Washington which had a view of the straight which was as pretty as we could have in Little Current of the North Channel.”
Ms. Morin said that she felt the development would be a good investment by the town and fill a needed void on Manitoulin.
As is council’s policy, they will discuss the proposal from the deputation at their next council meeting.
Funding agreements
Council carried motions directing Northeast Town Mayor Al MacNevin and the Northeast Town to enter into funding agreements with the Ministry of Canadian Heritage for $15,000 for a Canada 150 mural and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund for $46,500 and the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund for $40,000, both for the development of the Sheguiandah Archaeological Site.
Bylaw enforcement
Council carried a motion appointing Peter Varey as a bylaw enforcement officer.
Donation request
Council reviewed a letter from Ina Wesno from Manitoulin Secondary School requesting a donation towards a fundraiser being held for Mustang girls’ hockey player Cassie Cristo and her battle with cancer. Council donated $200 towards the fundraiser, which was held on Friday, January 20.
Raffle request
The Massey Agricultural Society requested permission from council to sell raffle tickets for a $2,000 cash prize. The funds raised will be used to assist in the operating costs of the society.
“I will support the request,” said Councillor Michael Erskine. “A lot of people from our community attend and enjoy the Massey Agricultural Society’s fair.”
Council carried a motion to grant the group permission to sell raffle tickets in the Northeast Town.
