DONALD JAMES McQUARRIE

February 8, 1952 – August 1, 2012

In loving memory of Donald McQuarrie, a resident of Gore Bay, who died at the Mindemoya Hospital on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the age of 60 years. He was born on Manitoulin and was raised and lived his life in Gore Bay, son of the late Ronald Malcolm and Wilda Eileen (Woods) McQuarrie. Donald was the president of McQuarrie Motors, with dealerships in Gore Bay, Espanola and Kirkland Lake. He was a member of Gore Bay Masonic Lodge #472 AF and AM, and was a Past Master of the Lodge. He had a variety of interests, which included hunting, fishing, golfing, boating, skeet shooting, coin collecting, gun collecting and was an avid reader. Donald was an eager supporter of many community projects. He was a well-known businessman throughout the country and will be sadly missed. Donald is survived by his beloved wife Mary Lynn (Sloss). Loved and loving father of Katherine of Gore Bay and Ronald (Mickey) of Little Current. Dear brother of Margaret (Bobby) Tuomi of Kagawong and Lynda (Paul) Flanagan of Gore Bay. He will be missed by nieces and nephews Amanda and her daughter Malaika, Ashley (Steve), Stephanie, Christy (Duane), Bill (Jennifer) (daughter Emily), and Amy and John David. Donald will also be remembered by mother-in-law Betty Sloss of Gore Bay, and in-laws Jim and Sharon Sloss of Gore Bay and Susan and Rick Grenon of Windsor and aunts and uncles Jack and Arlene McQuarrie, Kay Try, Harold McQuarrie and Alanah McQuarrie. He will be greatly missed by many friends and loved ones. Friends called at the Culgin Funeral Home, Gore Bay after 6 pm on Friday, August 3, 2012. The funeral service to celebrate Donald’s life was held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11 am with Rev. Canon Bain Peever and student minister Sherry DeJong officiating. If so desired, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Manitoulin Health Centre, Gore Bay Medical Centre, All Saints Anglican Church or any local charities would be appreciated.
