Anthony J. “Jack” Merry, 85, of Hellertown, died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Country Meadows, Bethlehem Twp. He is the husband of Marilyn A. (Smith) Merry. Jack was born in Rockville Centre, NY on November 4, 1930 to the late William L. and Edna Beatrice (Vail) Merry. He graduated from University of Maine in Orono with a degree in Hydraulic Engineering. He became a member of the 1952 Loopers of the former Bethlehem Steel and was assigned to the Lackawanna Plant near Buffalo, NY. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954, as a Scientific and Professional Personal where both of them worked at Fort Detrick, M.D. and then he return to the Bethlehem Steel in 1957. In 1955, he married Marilyn at the University Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, N.Y., where she was a member. He retired in 1979 from the Bethlehem Steel, and spent his retirement at his homes in Hellertown and South Baymouth, Ontario, Canada. Jack was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem and was very active in his community, serving on the Hellertown Borough Water Authority as a board member and as an interim administrator. For many years he was an Election Polling Officer. SURVIVORS–In addition to his wife of 61 years; granddaughter Erin Rose (Joshua) Dahl of Blades, DE; great-granddaughter Kira Rose Dahl; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his daughter Carol Lynn Heller who died in 1990.SERVICE–Memorial Service was held. The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., Hellertown is handling the arrangements.
