MINDEMOYA—A second successful adoption day was help at Kat’s Pet Supply in Mindemoya on October 29 from 10 am to 2 pm that saw three cats and one dog adopted.
“The most important thing that people should know,” said pet store owner Kathy Jewell, “is that when they adopt a rescue, they are helping to reduce the over population of cats and dogs. Also, all of the animals are spayed or neutered. They are fully vaccinated and have a full vet check. Any immediate medical work is also taken care of. Adoption rates are reduced on adoption days with rates for cats going from $180 to $150. For two cats, the fee is $170.”
Ms. Jewell also had high praise for the rescue group Fixing our Felines under Mallory Harasym of Manitowaning who works tirelessly to find homes for cats and have their vet work done.
Ms. Jewell will be hosting ongoing adoption days with the next one held probably in the spring. She also would like to remind Islanders that older cats need a forever home too.
“It was a busy day, but we were hoping for many more adoptions as there are still many kittens and adult cats in need of a good home,” said Julie McDermid, who helped with the event on behalf of Manitoulin Pet Rescue (MPR). “Today saw two kittens and a puppy go out to their new home with wonderful new families. We are always so grateful for the community support across Manitoulin and beyond towards MPR. We have been given many animal supplies such as beds, crates, leftover food, collars and leashes. As well as financial donations to keep doing the work that needs to be done. Please know that all financial donations will received a tax receipt in January 2017.”
“We are still in need of volunteers and fosters to make us help more animals in need,” Ms. McDermid added. “We thank all of those who came out today to our adoptathon for Manitoulin Pet Rescue.”
