Thank you doesn’t seem enough. Those “Islanders,” Lyle, Gordie, Norm, Harold, and Peter and Lori joining them today for the birthday party. We are so lucky to be able to have them with us, and get to enjoy their music.
Thank you Mum, too, for singing and your pan of good squares that disappeared like “magic.” The girls that sang behind me (I think they’re called Dew Op girls), Jackie, Joan and Lor, or back up, sounded amazing to me. (Mansion over the hilltop.) Will have to do that again, I think. I am wheel-less so pretty tired tonight, a couple of hikes around the corner (in the pouring rain again). Tara drove me around with the cake (got her out of her sickbed, she’s prone to migraines).
Today we had a demonstration of Taoist Tai Chai. How hypnotic the movement just beautiful to watch. Jean and Ken Pearce, Jane Little and Clark, the instructor leader for today. Carol Love won the prize for finding the lucky coin in the cake. Small prizes were won by Marg Case, Lois Newton, Jean McCauley, Mary Hall, and Jackie Bryant.
“Coming soon”
I’m walking along,
Head hanging down.
Admiring the sunshine,
That colours the ground.
Polished by raindrops,
Dancing in time.
While here in my mind,
I’m composing this rhyme.
The thunder is rolling,
Around overhead.
The lightning is snapping,
Should I be in dread.
I’m covered in plastic,
So I’m nice and dry.
Yet pelted with raindrops,
That falls from the sky.
Avoiding the puddles,
As I’m waking home.
Deep in my heart,
I’m enjoying the storm.
Too soon all the trees,
Will be naked and bare.
Browned dry leaves blowing,
High in the air.
But today there’s still colour,
On the trees and the ground.
And I say to myself,
I know what’s around the nest corner
Winter!!

Got a lovely phone call this morning from my friend Jean Livingston in Hamilton. She’s just had both her eyes done.
Cal told me tonight while on the phone he’d had a call from Lloyd (Thomas) who was at his son Brian’s, he got out of the hospital today (Tuesday).
I’m lying here looking up at the ghost spiders (at least that’s what I call them). I know they are on the ceiling cause they make shadows and they have really long legs, as long as they don’t fall on me, it’s OK.
I have been going to mention the dahlias at Ed and Shirley Sagle’s gate. The cosmos at Fred and Sheila Armstrong’s, and the impatiens at the Young’s place. The flowers have done well this fall. Showy.
Try to get out of bed without disturbing the cats; my leg goes into a Charlie horse spasm. If anyone had been walking on the road, they’d think I was being murdered! Lord they’re painful!
Went right to bed after I got home from Sandfield euchre (went with Marg and Laurene again). Irene Montgomery, ladies high; Bill Montgomery, men’s high; Bill Case, door winner (as I recall). Next week may or may not be Sandfields last of the season!?!
We had eight tables for cribbage today at Tehkummah. Fabulous lunch once again. I won high hand with a 24; first place, Gib and Florence, 943; second, Mary and Jean, 930; third, Dorothy A and Lois, 925; low, Bill and Betty Jean, 849; door prize winners, Glenna, Gib and I.
Had a nice roadside visit with Andre Probst. His life has undergone quite a change since I’ve last talked with him, and sounds quite interesting. Still in the sign business, off the grid, living, and solar sounds intriguing. Then a handsome young man comes to my door with a box of chocolates. He knows my weakness, I was so glad to find out a year or two ago how good chocolate is for me!
Stopped in at Mum’s after euchre and watched the end of the “African Queen” with her.
Eight tables for the Tehkummah tournament. Ben and Richard Lynch made the delish lunch. Graham and Sheila, high, 87; Donna and Eila, 78, and 8 lone hands; Sharlene and Janice, 77; Glenn and Janet, 75; Low, Pat (me), and Laurene.
Earlier in the day we had our Sr. U.C.W. meeting at Joan (Arnold’s) with Lynda Garniss chairing today’s meeting. Bev Lynch is our treasurer, Mum, secretary, Audrie, Pauline, Rita, Lynda brought her sister-in-law Linda as a guest. Today around the room we talked about what prayer meant to us and how we prayed. Joan, on worship, had read that prayer was boring and obsolete. It was a very interesting part of our meeting. Of course we always finish with a wonderful lunch (a very uplifting meeting).
I have been in the winners’ circle three times this week, probably missed my opportunity by not buying a lottery ticket. Today, Betty Jean and I got 83 points at Manitowaning euchre, and we had 7 lone hands, I got most of them. An amazement to me!!? Last night at Tehk, it was mostly 9s and 10s, queen high?? (We were low.) It smelled good in there, as there was a spaghetti dinner provided with your game entry. Many folk stayed for that, Betty Jean, Dorothy and I came home.
The fall colour still pretty showy, lots of orange and golds, brightening up the landscape.
Well Sunday morning I had a huge yellow raspberry and noted the whole clumps (tops) were gone. Then I saw the biggest deer track in the mud and said Ahhah (The beggars)! Trying to keep warm at my place, I did sit in the sun for a while, till the clouds came back. The dry leaves rolling behind me in the dark are scary, just in time for Halloween. There is a party at the hall, costumed free, 8pm Monday evening. Jr. U.C.W. sponsor this every year.
A nice phone chat with Jody (Blue) this week. She had got a phone call from Reg White (East Coast) inquiring about all his “old” friends, and was quite pleased to hear from him. Bob is doing OK. Cal took me to South Baymouth to pick up my vehicle Saturday, he tells me Lloyd (Thomas) is home and doing well. Keep up the good work!
Mary O called to see if I wanted to go to church. I went back to bed and had the most interesting dream.
Some information incomplete last week. Euchre ladies high, Laurene, 72; lone hands, 3,also won the door prize. Ladies’ low, Jay, 43; men’s high, Graham, 80; men’s lone hands, Mark, 4; men’s low, Bert, 45; skunks, Bert and Joy.
I couldn’t believe it was nineteen years since I’d met the Pearces. I gave Jean goldfish for their pond. Herons and cormorants ate them, now they have a beaver cutting down their trees!
Going through stuff, I’m a paper collector today reading history on the Halls sent to me in 1992 by Joyce Schippleny of St. Thomas, also Hilson family history, sent to me by Judy Guay. Well just heard this morning of Marge Aasens passing. She had lived in Tehkummah quite a while, and for a time, was a member of our Sr. U.C.W. Sympathy to her friends and family. Speaking of Sr. U.C.W., in less than two weeks our Christmas Tea, bake sale, bazaar, etc. is upon us. Save up the loonies. We have some great draws coming up.
