Providence Bay News and Notes

We are sure going to miss having Huron Island Time up and running since they shut down for the season on the last day of September. Their evening concert series and the open mic were well attended and the attendees expressed thanks and appreciation for the program. Lance and Jacquie look forward to providing this service again next year.

We forgot to mention that Amber Belcastro nee Bryan had her mother-in-law Cindy Belcastro also up visiting with them at her parents’ cottage ‘The Hummingbird Retreat’ on Thanksgiving weekend.

Dawn Young, who is the recipient of a double transplant of a pancreas and a kidney, has been given the go ahead to return home to the Island. She will still have to make numerous trips to the hospital in London for frequent checkups and will have to remain on anti-rejection medications for the rest of her life but we’re lucky to still have this spunky woman here with us.

There was a rumour that we missed Shirley Dewar’s birthday. We weren’t given any details but wanted to wish a happy belated one to her all the same.

A birthday gathering was also held for Toots McDermid at the Mutchmor where everyone sang happy birthday to her and then enjoyed some cake on October 13.

Birthday wishes also go out to Kevin Patterson and Marie Neill who both celebrated on October 16.

Welcome back to the community goes out to Anna Hobbs, who was on an extended vacation off Island. She stays with daughter Barb and Mike McKechnie.

Get well wishes go out to Bob Payette from Windsor, Ontario who is recovering from a heart attack.

The Harvest Glory Days contest brought out many of our residents in a wonderful showing of community spirit as decorations went up and homes were dressed up. We sure gave it a brilliant try!

Kerry and Steve Barclay were here for a brief visit to their summer home.

Ralf Island’s grand opening was held on Saturday, October 15. They had over a hundred people stop in to check out the new store and enjoy sausages, hamburgers and cake to help make the opening a success.

The Mutchmor celebrated their final day for the season with another cake. Do we know how to celebrate or what? Their final day open was Sunday, October 16 to celebrate a highly successful season. We look forward to the return of specialty coffee in The Peace Cafe next year.

Don’t forget that there will be a planned power outage scheduled for Sunday, October 23 from 8 am until 2 pm.

The monthly euchre tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, October 25. Bring a partner and come on down to the Providence Bay Centennial Community Hall for a fun night out.

Don’t forget to get your tickets or to give a donation to the Providence Bay Halloween Dance. So mark your calendar, think of a cool costume and come out for a fun filled evening.  It will be held on Saturday October the 29th at the Providence Bay Hall.  $15/person, 8 pm to 1 am, LLBO, late lunch, DJ Kyd Chris from Sudbury and prizes for costumes. Proceeds go to: Manitoulin Streams, kids free skating and our Village Square.
