MANITOULIN—Hydro One is alerting Manitoulin Island customers of a planned power outage on Sunday, October 23 affecting approximately 10,000 customers. The outage is required to prepare the new distribution station that will replace the Little Current Distribution Station, originally built in 1950.
The outage will allow Hydro One workers to safely relocate 12 poles and the power line that will feed the new station. The new distribution station, with a price tag of $2 million, will help improve reliability and increase capacity for Manitoulin Island.
Crews will also perform other maintenance and replacement work during the extended outage. This includes replacing the aviation lights crossing the North Channel and changing cross arms on poles that have been identified during line patrols.
The outage will take place from 8 am to 2 pm.
Hydro One will require a shorter planned outage in a few weeks to put the new distribution station into service.
Affected customers are notified via auto dialer and can call the customer service team at 1-888-664-9376 with any questions.
